I did promise that I would provide some answers to the last two Friday Funny puzzles I posted:

So here are the solutions ….

**Horse themed algebra maths puzzle**

This one is just algebra. Let’s assign some letters:

H = Horse, B = Boot, S = Shoe

**H + H + H = 30**

Add H’s together: 3H = 30

Divide both sides by 3: H = 10

**H + 2S + 2S = 18**

Substitute H: 10 + 2S + 2S = 18

Add S’s together: 10 + 4S = 18

Subtract 10 from both sides: 4S = 8

Divide both sides by 4: S = 2

**2S – 2B = 2**

Substitute S’s: 2×2 – 2B = 2

Evaluate: 4 – 2B = 2

Subtract 4 from both sides: -2B = -2

Divide both sides by -2: B = 1

**B + H x S = ??**

Substitute values: 1 + 10 x 2 = ??

Multiply first: 1 + 20 = ??

Addition: 21 = ??

**Answer is 21**. Did you get it?

Looking at the poll on the original post, most people did not get the correct answer with only 21% selecting the answer as 21. A common mistake here is not to notice that there are 2 boots or 2 horseshoes in some of the equations.

**Sequence Maths Puzzle**

This one is a bit more confusing as there are actually two sequences which can work:

**Sequence One**: A + B = Sum + Previous Answer = Answer

1 + 4 = 5 + 0 = 5

2 + 5 = 7 + 5 = 12

3 + 6 = 9 + 12 = 21

8 + 11 = 19 + 21 = 40

**Sequence One gives the answer as 40.**

**Sequence Two**: A + B = A x (B+1) = Answer

1 + 4 = 1 x (4+1) = 1 x 5 = 5

2 + 5 = 2 x (5+1) = 2 x 6 = 12

3 + 6 = 3 x (6+1) = 3 x 7 = 21

8 + 11 = 8 x (11+1) = 8 x 12 = 96

**Sequence Two gives the answer as 96.**

So did you get 40 or 96? I originally saw the more complex 96 solution, but later also saw the 40 solution. Based on the poll 63% of people got 40 and only 31% got 96. Did you see both solutions?
