Friday Funny: Star Wars Holiday Special

David Meego - Click for blog homepageI love Star Wars as most people do, especially with the new movies being released. In fact Star Wars: Rogue One was released publicly just yesterday.

So you can imagine my surprise when I found out that there was an entire Star Wars movie that has been lost and unknown for the last almost 40 years.

The Star Wars Holiday Special is a 1978 American musical science fiction television film set in the Star Wars galaxy. It stars the series’ first film’s main cast while introducing the character Boba Fett, who would appear in later films.

It has a whopping 3.5 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes and 2.4 out of 10 on IMDB, so there is a reason it was broadcast only once and never seen again.

Anyhow, some fans have located the best version they could find and cleaned it up and released it on YouTube, which is where I found it.

It is so awful, it has to be seen to be believed….. Even with Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Anthony Daniels as C3PO, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, R2-D2 as R2-D2 and James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader…. it still sucked.

Here it is for your viewing displeasure:

  1. I remember seeing this as a kid. For a while I thought I had dreamed this up, but I grabbed a copy off of YouTube a few years ago. You’re right, it was awful.
