Why won’t my Dexterity Application Dictionary update?

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article I originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.

A couple of weeks ago, I had another interesting situation raised by Sivakumar Venkataraman.  In this scenario, we had a custom Dexterity dictionary installed on a customer’s system. This customisation contained a table definition for a temporary table. To support some additional functionality, the temporary table needed an extra index added.  Installing the updated chunk on the customer’s system failed to add the new index to the table definition. Running the code generated errors about an invalid index.

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article I originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.

A couple of nights ago, my friend Sivakumar Venkataraman (Siva) pinged me on Messenger about an issue he was having.  He was in the process of upgrading a customer’s site from Microsoft Business Solutions – Great Plains 8.0 to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0, and after the upgrade none of the users were able to log into Dynamics GP. The only exception was the ‘sa’ user.

Developing Outside of the Box

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article I originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.

Recently I responded to a question on a newsgroup asking how to minimise a window from VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).

The short answer is that it is not possible.  But just because a Microsoft Dynamics GP window VBA object does not expose any methods or properties for the window state does not mean we have to give up.

Customizing Microsoft Dynamics GP? 5 Excuses You Will Want to Bury Once and For All!

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article I originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.

Over the years that I have worked with Great Plains and Microsoft Dynamics GP, I have seen (and written) many customizations at customer sites. Some of those customizations are in the form of products to handle specific vertical markets or generic tools to enhance functionality. Some of those customizations are in the form of customer specific Dexterity or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code.
