Changing Registration Contact Details for Winthrop Products

David Meego - Click for blog homepageI am often asked to change the contact details for the registration data for our products. These contact details are used for sending emails from Winthrop Development Consultants.

Emails sent include Renewal Notices and Invoices to partners and direct customers, and update notices and newsletters to all customers (cc’d to their partners).

It is vital that the contact details use a valid (and unique) email address for each registration record. The email must be for a person or team at the registered company. Partners cannot use their email addresses for customer registrations.

While we can change the Contact Details (Name, Email and Mobile phone) numbers for the registration record on the server, it is actually better for the end user to change the details themselves on their Microsoft Dynamics GP system.

Just open the Registration window (see article below) and click the Contact Details button to see the current contact details.

  • #GPPT Where can I find the Registration window?
  • The Registration windows for Visual Studio Integration Toolkit and Batch Posting Service Toolkit can be found on the Administration Area Page under Cards >> System or the Cards >> System Menu.

Note: Partners can change their details using the Registration window from any of our products installed in the demo, development or in-house systems.

Please make sure that the Name, Email and Mobile phone details are correct for the end customer. The Email field can only contain a single address, and this must be unique as it is the primary key of our registration system. Using an alias email address for a distribution list is valid and a good method to ensure more than one person is notified and it will not break when staff changes.

[Edit] On the newest builds of our products, there is a new field for Additional Emails. This allows extra emails to be added to an Email Distribution List which is cc’d on all communications. Please add any backup contacts to this list separated by semi colons.

As long as your system is internet connected, it will retrieve the details from the server and write back any changes made. This will ensure that both your system and the registration server are updated.

If you are not internet connected, please update the details on your system and then click the Update Keys button to generate the registration request report and copy and paste the text (not image or pdf) and contact us and include the details so we can update the registration server for you.

If we make the changes directly on the registration server, it will not update your system until you next go into the Registration window. This could affect the automatic updating of your registration keys when renewing your subscriptions as the email address on your system will not match the address on the registration server.

If you are internet connected, also make sure that the Registration Settings are configured to check for new keys daily when their have expired or are due to expire. If this setting is changed, the automatic updating of the subscription keys when the subscription is renewed will not work as efficiently or will be disabled entirely.

Finally, please make sure you are running the latest builds of our products as only the last two builds can be registered, older builds can no longer be registered. This will also ensure that you are not affected by the security vulnerability discovered in the installer programs:

Note: Please note invalid contact details can cause the Registration System to automatically suspend subscriptions if emails bounce or are rejected. If necessary, please whitelist the WinthropDC.com domain.

Hope you find this information useful.
