Discontinued Builds for Winthrop Products

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis article should help clarify which old builds are discontinued, what this means, and why the builds are discontinued anyway.

With the release of the latest builds for GP Power Tools, Batch Posting Service Toolkit and Visual Studio Integration Toolkit, we have also announced that builds containing the known security vulnerability will be discontinued at the end of 2023.

This is not discontinuing products, we are fully committed to Microsoft Dynamics GP and continuing our products and product development on the platform.

A discontinued build will continue to work until it requires registration again (usually when the subscription expires) at which time it must be updated to a supported build (preferably the latest build) before it can be registered again.

Updating the Winthrop Development Consultants product is very simple and can be automated and does not require Microsoft Dynamics GP itself to be updated. However, staying on a supported Microsoft Dynamics GP version is highly recommended.

There are a number of reasons why old builds of our products are discontinued and they are ALL so that the customers can have the best experience using our products.

  • Security: An installer Security Vulnerability was discovered and immediately fixed in August 2022. Installing a fixed build updates the installer components and resolves the issue. Discontinuing support for builds with this issue will protect customers’ systems.
  • Fixes: Staying on the latest build ensures that all the known issues have been fixed.
  • Features: We are continuously developing new features and enhancing existing features, customers can only get the benefits of this development work if they install latest builds.
  • Support (current build): We can only provide fixes to the latest builds of our products.
  • Extended Support (old builds): Many issues found in old builds have already been fixed in the newer builds.
  • Subscription: Your subscription entitles you to always been on the latest builds.

Note: The final released build for each product for each version of Microsoft Dynamics GP will not be discontinued and will continue to be able to be registered.
