Saving the Developing for Dynamics GP blog

David Meego - Click for blog homepageMany of you have probably read an article or two from my previous blog on Microsoft’s MSDN, the Developing for Dynamics GP blog. This blog was created in July 2008 and had published 1,130 articles by the time I left Microsoft in October 2014.

Even though there has been no new content added to the blog since I left, the blog is still one of the most popular Microsoft Dynamics GP related blogs. In fact, the Worldmaps tracking shows that the site is ranked 4th in the leaderboard and gets over 20,000 hits a month.

Microsoft is planning to deprecate MSDN blogs by the end of March and I am working to ensure that this valuable resource is not lost to the community.

Debugging in the Dynamics GP 2015 Service Based Architecture

Alice Newsam - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article Alice Newsam originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.

As we move into the world of Service Based Architecture with Dynamics GP 2015, we wanted to highlight some debugging tools that will aid you as you create service procedures of your own.  Today you have various things available to you to debug integrations as they are created.  Among them are internal tools like the Dexterity script logs and the debugger or methods as simple as dropping the .set file on the runtime executable to ensure Dynamics still launches without error. There are numerous external tools at your fingertips as well such as SQL Profiler, Task Manager and Event Viewer.  While you will continue to find great value in these going forward when debugging things “inside” of the Dynamics GP environment we wanted to add tools for gathering information for all of the service events happening “outside” this environment and coming into the Dexterity Process.

VBA: DUOS data stored in the wrong database after switching companies

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article I originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.

A while ago I had a case where the customer was storing data in the DUOS (Dynamic User Object Store) table from a VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) customisation. Everything worked fine until the users switched companies. After switching company the VBA customisation would still be connected to the DUOS table in the previous company’s database. If the user exited Microsoft Dynamics GP and logged back in, the DUOS in the correct database was used.

Quick Tip: Dexterity Ranges and how to update Fields that are part of the Key

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is a reposting of an article I originally wrote on my Developing for Dynamics GP blog.
